Ricky & I have been married for 23 years, we have one son, Derrick. He is 19 years old and graduated from Franklin County High School 2009. We own 60 acres of land in Hart County, Georgia. We built our poultry farm in 1999, at that time we owned Meg. Meg is the reason we fell in love with the labrador retriever breed. She is such a wonderful dog, a great swimmer, retriever, and she is my husband's best friend. She has the best temperment anyone could ask for. Meg was the mother to our very first litter of labs. We enjoyed the puppies so much that we kept Sparks from that litter. Libby came shortly after. Meg is 11 years old and retired now. She will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Taking care of my dogs and raising my puppies is my true passion. I do work at the chicken house where you will find 6 or more dogs with me everyday. They enjoy going to work, eating the broke eggs is their job. And I enjoy the company of having them with me. After a hard day of working we usually end it at the pond where the dogs go for a swim, retrieve sticks in the water, or hunt fish & frogs under the dock.
Here
is the inside of one of the chicken houses, there are over 10,000 hens
& about 800 roosters in here, the house is 450 feet long. The
chickens stay with us for about 10 months. The eggs are hatching eggs,
they are picked up 2 times a week & taken to a hatchery in Athens,
Ga to be hatched and the chicks are taken to a broiler farm to be
raised out. We gather close to 9,000 eggs a day in each house.
This
is a picture of Benelli, Lucy & Sparks relaxing by the pond
watching the float. It's one of their favorite things to do.
I absolutely love this picture, I took
it one afternoon while the sun was setting, Molly, Benelli & Lucy
are all racing to get the stick. Another of their favorite things to
do.
This is a picture of Lucy, Libby,
Sparks, Benelli all in the back of my husband's work truck. They enjoy
riding around the farm.
This is Conrad, we are very proud of
him, he is a trained Search & Rescue dog that lives in Fannin
County. He has been successful on numerous occassions. He has found
an alzheimer patient who had wondered away from his home and would have
died if Conrad had not found him. He has helped the police track down
a burglar also. Richard takes him to the schools to teach safety. He
is an awesome dog. Thanks to Richard & Brenda for keeping us
updated on him.
This is Amy, she belongs to our son,
Derrick. He has trained her to duck hunt using the waterdog video.
Ricky & Derrick take her duck hunting on our land & she loves
it, she will go in the water & retrieve those ducks even in 20
degree weather. Labs are amazing. We are very pleased with her
progress. She is Kodiak's daughter.
